Located in the northern Jiashan County
in the Zhejiang Province, Xitang is beautiful water
town dating back to at least the Spring and Autumn Period
(770 BC-476 BC). Crisscrossed by nine rivers, Xitang
is famous for its bridges, sheltered corridors, antique
residences, lanes and temples. There are well-preserved
groups of ancient constructions of the Ming Dynasty
(1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911); these
old buildings still preserve their original look. More
than 104 varied bridges can be found arching over canals.
Visitors can sit by the restaurants overlooking the
canals and watching the many boats pass by... Xitang
keeps a tranquil ambience and scenic beauty; it is a
completely different world from the hustle and bustle
of nearby Shanghai.
