Huangshan Tour
HuangShan
is the collective name of a famous range of granite
mountains found in southern Anhui
Province and known throughout China for its extraordinary
esthetic features. The range was given its name by the
Tang Dynasty emperor Tian Boa in 747 AD. HuangShan covers
an area of 150 sq. km. (57.9 sq. mi.) and comprises
over 72 distinct peaks of varying heights. The three
highest are: Lotus Flower Peak (Lianhua Feng) at l,873
m. (6,147 ft.) above sea level; Bright Summit (Guangming
Ding), 1,840 m. (6,039 ft.); and Heavenly Capital Peak
(Tiandu Feng), 1,829 m, (6,000 ft.).
Over the centuries, Chinese poets and painters
have immortalized the four great attractions, or "four
ultimate beauties" of HuangShan - fantastically
shaped rocks, the "sea of clouds" swirling
around the peaks; ancient pines clinging to the rockface;
and hot springs. HuangShan was, and is, a favorite vacation
retreat for Chinese officials and important state guests.
